Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that’s mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains, spasms and post injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes and trigger points to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury, promote faster healing by increasing blood flow, reduce inflammation and reduce tension in the muscles and tissues. The therapist generally will focus the massage on your problematic areas rather than doing a full body session. The areas to be worked will be determined during your consultation. Sessions are either 60 or 90 minutes.
Swedish massage is the most common and best-known type of massage in the West. If it's your first time or you don't get massage often, Swedish massage is the best place to start. The Swedish body massage is the combination of many different techniques rolled into one session. During this therapy session the therapist will work with the soft tissues and muscles in the body to help restore balance and health. During the Swedish massage the therapist will work on the full body rather than focusing on specific areas. If you would like certain areas to be avoided you should inform the therapist during the consultation. The end result will relax all of the muscles in your body and help restore circulation. A Swedish body massage is the perfect way for anyone who is overly worked and stressed out to relax their body and mind. Sessions are either 60 or 90 minutes.
Reflexology is the application of pressure to specific areas on the feet or hands. The theory behind reflexology is that areas of the foot or hands correspond to organs and systems of the body. Pressure applied to the foot or hand on specific points is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the corresponding area of the body. Sessions are either 30 minutes or can be purchased as a 15 minute add on to a full massage.
Regardless of the reasons we seek it out—a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management, or injury rehabilitation—massage therapy can be a powerful addition to your healthcare regimen. The benefits include but are not limited to:
Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Music of your choice will be played to help you relax. You will lie draped on a table especially designed for your comfort and can even choose to have the table heated if you wish!
A light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction and to hydrate the skin. You will get to select what type of oil or lotion you would like to be used during your session. We offer massage oils with a variety of essential oils for aromatherapeutic purposes, hypoallergenic lotion or massage oil with CBD so you can select the oil or lotion that best fits your needs.
There are numerous types of massage and bodywork; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, application of pressure to specific points, and more. The session will be customized to fit your needs however; you can read the descriptions provided for further guidance on the different massage techniques offered. Sessions are typically 60 minutes on the table however you can choose to increase it to 90 minutes if you wish.
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You will be properly draped under a sheet during the entire session. The therapist will do a consultation and then will step out of the room while you are getting undressed and on the table. You should undress to whatever your comfort level is and remember that during the session the therapist will use sheets to drape you and only the area being worked will be exposed.
You and the practitioner will discuss the desired outcome of your session and this will determine which parts of your body require massage. The session will be customized to fit your needs, but a typical full body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. You will not be touched on or near your genitals (male or female) or breasts (female).
It depends on the techniques used- please see the description of each massage for further guidance on what to expect for each type of massage. You should always communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension, injury or repetitive activity. With deep tissue techniques there can be some level of soreness the next day, similar to how the muscles feel after a heavy workout. This does not linger longer than the day after and most clients find it completely tolerable. If you find you are too sore after a session inform your therapist and the pressure can be decreased for your next session.
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session.
