Everything to Know About a FUE Hair Transplant

hair transplant

Both men and women in the United States are no strangers to hair loss — by age 35, two-thirds of men experience hair loss and 30 million women have some degree of female-pattern baldness. Making matters more difficult, if you do an internet search for “hair loss,” you’re met with more than 1.2 billion results in less than a second. Unfortunately, most of these results are gimmicks or ineffective products and services.

The highly qualified team here at Regency Medical Spa & Hair Clinic has devoted our practice to helping clients achieve their cosmetic goals using only the most advanced and science-based tools available. When it comes to hair restoration, we’re pleased to offer the follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant system, which boasts a near-perfect success rate for restoring fantastic coverage to your scalp.

How FUE works

Each of the hairs on your head begins in a follicle in your scalp. With FUE, our goal is to remove healthy individual follicles from areas on your scalp where you have enough to spare and transplant them into areas where your hair is thinning.

Older techniques for hair transplantation involved removing strips of your scalp with the hair follicles in them and then grafting them into areas where coverage is thin. This technique was effective, but the results were often patchy and scarring was an issue.

With FUE, we extract only the follicle using a micropunch, leaving no trace of the extraction behind.

Tools matter

FUE is a very precise procedure that requires equally precise tools. At our practice, we turn to Cole Instruments®, which provides the highest quality micropunches available on the market. This means we can remove your individual follicles cleanly and quickly thanks to the better control and accuracy these tools provide.

Your FUE timeline

It’s difficult to say here what your FUE timeline may look like, as it very much depends upon your goals and the number of follicles needed to accomplish them.

In most cases, our clients require a series of treatments, each of which takes several hours. We can perform your FUE hair transplantation over the course of several days, and you’re free to get on with your day after each session.

It’s important to protect the transplantation area, which means not wearing hats and not getting your head wet for about a week.

To boost your hair restoration results and promote quicker growth, we also offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. This technique involves harvesting growth factors from your own blood and injecting them directly into your scalp.

When it comes to results, remember that we’re working with your body and that your body works at its own pace. As your scalp accepts and integrates each follicle, it will send it into the typical growth cycle, which means you may not realize results for about three months. Your patience will be well rewarded, however, as healthy, rich hair begins to fill in those thinning areas.
